Stephen O'Donnell

Stephen began his career at Arsenal in 2004 and also had a spell in Scotland with Falkirk during which he made 41 league appearances between 2005 and 2007.

He returning to Ireland in the summer of 2007 to sign for Sean Connor at Bohemians. Pat Fenlon took over as manager at Bohs at the start of 2008 and Stephen was a member of the side that won the league and cup double that year. However, having made 38 league appearances for 'the Gypsies' he left the club to sign for Cork City in February 2009.

Stephen made 20 league appearances for Cork that year but it was time of huge turmoil at the club and he left at the end of the year, signing for his home town club Galway United at the start of 2010. He made 28 league appearances at Galway, scoring eight times before moving on again in the close season to sign for Michael O'Neill at Shamrock Rovers who had just won the 2010 league title.

2011 was a year of ups and downs for Stephen. Injury disrupted his season and he made only 12 league appearances as the Hoops won their second consecutive league title. But the club also broke new ground in Europe and it was Stephen's extra-time penalty against Partizan Belgrade that put the club through to the Europa League Group stages. 2012 was another injury ravaged year and, having made just 4 league appearances, Stephen left the club shortly before the end of the season.

In December 2012 Stephen joined Stephen Kenny at Dundalk and made his debut for the Lilywhites against his former club Shamrock Rovers on the opening night of the 2013 season. He proved a key influence in Dundalk's midfield and made 22 league appearances as the club just missed out on the league title, finishing three points behind champions St Pats.

Stephen stayed with Dundalk and captained the side for the 2014 season. He started the first eight games of the season but suffered a cruciate ligament injury that looked likely to rule him out for the season. He returned to come off the bench in three games before finally making his first start since the injury in the last game of the season against league leaders Cork City. Dundalk needed a win to clinch the title, which they did, with Stephen scoring the first goal in a 2-0 win. He finished with two goals in 12 league appearances for the season.

Stephen went on to make a further 24 league appearances in 2015, scoring twice, as Dundalk once more won the Premier Division title. He also appeared in both Champions League ties, as the Lilywhites went out to BATE Borisov, and in the FAI Cup Final, in which they beat Cork City 1-0 after extra-time. 2016 brought a third title win at Dundalk, his fourth in total, as Stephen scored once in 23 league appearances. He also revisited the Europa League group stage, playing in nine of the club's twelve European matches.

In December 2016 Dundalk announced that Stephen had signed a new 2-year deal at the club. In January 2019, Stephen retired from professional football and instead took up a role with Dundalk as Senior Opposition Analyst and Scout.
