Irish hopeful Sammie Szmodics impresses again with FA Cup brace
Szmodics scored twice in a 4-1 win for Blackburn Rovers over League 2 side Wrexham to progress to the fifth round of the FA Cup.
The forward took his goal tally for the season to 21 as he impressed again in Blackburn’s fourth round tie.
Szmodics had to pull Rovers back level after the Welsh side took the lead through Andy Cannon’s powerful strike.
He equalized 13 minutes after when Sam Gallagher pulled the ball back across the six-yard box and Szmodics tucked it home.
Sam Gallagher would put Blackburn in front following a massive error from Wrexham goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo. Szmodics got his second of the game after a ball over the top from Sondre Tronstad evaded the Wrexham backline and the Rovers number 8 slotted the ball into their net.
Tronstad, who set up Szmodics, got on the scoresheet himself, scoring a well-taken but deflected strike to send Wrexham home from the competition.
Another man of the match performance in the FA Cup for Sammie Szmodics, who has five goals in just two games played. He scored a first half hattrick against Cambridge United in the round previous.
Szmodics and Blackburn welcome Premier League side Newcastle United to Ewood Park in the fifth round of the FA Cup in which the 28-year-old will look to impress once again.
