Liam Brady’s brace helped St Mochta’s record a 3-0 opening night win against Lucan United at Porterstown Road.

And all the damage was done during a devastating first-half display played in horrendous conditions.

Former Drogheda United forward Gareth McCaffrey opened the scoring in the third minute with an instinctive finish inside the penalty area.

It got better just seven minutes later when Brady doubled their advantage with a half volley from the edge of the 18-yard box.

Mochta's completed the first-half rout when Brady netted again after being found by McCaffrey’s threaded through ball.

Meanwhile, Wayside Celtic ran out 2-0 winners away to Tolka Rovers.

The South Dublin outfit took just 15 minutes to open the scoring when Jake Byrne netted.

And they sealed their victory early on in the second period when Cormac Kelly doubled their advantage.

Elsewhere, Malahide United claimed a 2-0 victory at the expense of Bluebell United.

However, there were a spate of games postponed due to the effects of Storm Betty, with Liffey Wanderers home clash against Killester Donnycarney the first to be pulled.

And midway through Crumlin United’s trip to Kilbarrack United the game was abandoned.

Crumlin were leading 3-1 at the time with Jamie Whelan, Willo McAdams and Ger Shortt all on target.

Dano Byrne scored for Kilbarrack – but the game will have to be replayed at a later date.
