Chelsea have announced that defender Maren Mjelde has signed a one-year contract extension.

Since joining Chelsea in 2017, Mjelde has become an integral part of the squad. The Norwegian international's impressive performance record includes winning the Spring Series, five Women’s Super League titles, four FA Cups, two League Cups, and the Community Shield.

In the 2022/23 season, Mjelde displayed exceptional talent during the UEFA Women’s Champions League quarter-finals against Lyon. She scored a penalty in the last kick of extra time, propelling the match into a shootout. Mjelde scored again in the shootout, helping Chelsea reach the semi-finals.

Upon signing her extension, Mjelde expressed her joy at continuing with Chelsea, stating, ‘I feel really happy, Chelsea is my club and it has been for six-and-a-half years. I’m happy to stay here, it’s been my home for a long time and I’m really excited for next season.’

Paul Green, General Manager of Chelsea, expressed delight at Mjelde's decision, praising her leadership both on and off the field.

‘She’s been a big part of our success over the years and we’re looking forward to seeing her again next season,’ he said.

Mjelde has so far made 131 appearances for the Blues, scoring 22 goals.
