Watch: Padraig Amond lobs Manchester City's Ederson to maintain record of scoring in every FA Cup round

The fairytale came to an end for Newport County at the hands of England’s richest club but Padraig Amond maintained his record of having scored in every round of this season’s FA Cup.

The Carlow native netted for the fifth successive round as League Two Newport put it up to the Premier League champions.

However, late goals from Phil Foden and Riyadh Mahrez ensured Manchester City ran out 4-1 winners over the Welsh club, who also had Dubliner Mark O’Brien in the starting eleven.

Former Shamrock Rovers and Sligo Rovers striker Amond had scored in wins over Met Police, Wrexham, Leicester City and Middlesbrough in previous rounds.

And he latched onto a long ball over the top, capitalising on a mistake from Nicolas Otamendi before lifting the ball deftly over the advancing Ederson.

That goal gave the Rodney Parade side hope at 2-1 with four minutes on the clock, but Foden was on target with his second of the game quickly after kick-off and Mahrez sealed the win in injury time.
