Dundalk sign former Northern Ireland under-21 defender Cameron Dummigan from Oldham Athletic

Dundalk have signed versatile full-back Cameron Dummigan on a long-term contract ahead of the new Premier Division campaign.

The 22-year-old joins the champions from Oldham Athletic, where he was a teammate of fellow Lilywhite Patrick McEleney until the midfielder returned to Oriel Park last year.

Lurgan native Dummigan played up to under-21 level with Northern Ireland after coming through the ranks with Cliftonville, before making the move across the water to Burnley in 2012.

The two-footed defender, who can play full-back on both sides, was voted the Clarets’ young player of the year in his first season at Turf Moor and made the bench for the first team on several occasions.

Dunnigan joined Oldham in 2016 and went on to make 85 appearances for the Latics in England’s League One and Two.

“I am delighted to be here. Once I heard that Dundalk were interested I wanted to get it done,” Dummigan told the club’s website.

“I am pleased to get the deal over the line. I have known about the club for the past few years and I am keen to be part of the group.

“It helps knowing a few players in the group. I played with Patrick McEleney and Michael Duffy before. It’s always good. I will get to know everyone quickly and I can’t wait to get started. “

“During his time at Burnley, Cameron was involved with the first team squad and whilst he did not make a Premier League appearance, Sean Dyche named him on the bench in the games against Chelsea, Southampton, Watford and Swansea, which says a lot about the talent he has.”
