Wexford Youths to kick off title defence with visit of DLR Waves

Wexford Youths will kick off the defence of their Women’s National League title by welcoming DLR Waves to Ferrycarrig Park on Saturday, March 9th.

Youths completed a clean sweep of the league, FAI Cup and WNL Shield in 2018, and were only narrowly edged out by Peamount United in the final of the WNL Cup.

And Tom Elmes’ side will begin their effort to become the first side lift three consecutive league titles with the visit of Waves, who have reverted to their old name following the withdrawal of UCD.

Former Bray Wanderers caretaker manager Graham Kelly will take charge of Waves for the 2019 season and has already signed up the majority of the squad from last season.

Shelbourne, who will play their home games in Tolka Park rather than the AUL, will travel to the Watershed to face last year’s bottom-placed side Kilkenny United.

Peamount will host the 2017 FAI Cup winners Cork City at Greenogue on the opening weekend, while Limerick will host Galway at a venue to be determined.

Week two sees Cork host Wexford and Shelbourne at home to Limerick, while Peamount face a trip to Galway and Kilkenny on their travels to Jackson Park to meet DLR Waves.

The WNL Shield will not be played in 2019, so the League Cup will begin on the weekend of April 28th and the FAI Cup on the weekend ending August 25th.
