Watch: Ireland international Niamh Fahey scores first Liverpool goal

It hasn’t been an easy adjustment to life on Merseyside for Republic of Ireland international Niamh Fahey as the Reds’ early-season promise has turned into a relegation battle.

That didn’t get much better for the Anfield club in their final fixture of 2018 as they fell to a 3-1 defeat to local rivals Everton in the Continental Cup.

There was some silver lining (tinsel?) for the versatile defensive midfielder, however, as she notched her first goal for the club since returning to England from Bordeaux.

The former Chelsea player netted a well-taken first-time volley after Everton keeper Kirstie Levell could only punch Yana Daniels’ cross to the edge of the box.

Everton were already 2-0 up at that stage through Chaney Boye-Hlorkah and Simone Magill, and Elise Hughes added a third to wrap up a second Merseyside derby win in two weeks.
