Keith Fahey part of new underage coaching setup at Shamrock Rovers

Shamrock Rovers have confirmed the coaching staff line-up for the club’s underage teams competing in the 2019 national leagues.

The Hoops had previously signaled the return of Tony Cousins to the club as under-17 Head Coach (see here), and on Monday they announced an updated lineup for their coaching staff across all their national league underage teams.

The set up will include former Irish international Keith Fahey, who will be a member of Rovers’ under 15 coaching team.

Thomas Morgan is the newly appointed head coach for that age group following the departure of Damien Duff to Celtic. Morgan, the former St. Patrick’s Athletic player and FAI Development Officer in Dún Laoghaire, has brought Dessie Baker and Keith Fahey in as his assistants.

Fahey picked up 16 international caps during his playing career that included a successful stint in the Premier League with Birmingham City and multiple spells at St. Pat’s.

He finished his playing career at Tallaght Stadium with Shamrock Rovers where a knee injury forced his retirement during the 2015 season.

Baker, a crowd favourite at Rovers having helped the Hoops win the 2010 league title, was previously coaching one of Rovers’ underage teams in the DDSL.

Having brought a squad of players right through up to under-19 league level, Aidan Price will take up the head coach role with Rovers’ under-13 team.

That squad will take part in the inaugural national league for that age set-up. He will be assisted by Stephen Gray.

Stephen Rice, meanwhile, moves up from his under-17 coaching role at Rovers to take on the under-19 head coach job in the Hoops' Academy.

Rice, who played 225 competitive games for the Hoops between 2008 and 2013, recently received a UEFA Certificate in Football Management through the Welsh FA. Keith O’Halloran will continue to work as Rice’s assistant.

In the announcement Shamrock Rovers noted that the club “will continue to show an unwavering commitment to improve our club from top to bottom and the coaching staff appointments to the Academy for the 2019 season is just another example of our pursuit of excellence.”
