Ireland midfielder Jeff Hendrick signs one-year extension with Burnley

Republic of Ireland international Jeff Hendrick has secured his club future for another 12 months as he extended his contract with Premier League Burnley until the end of 2020.

The 26-year-old’s contract had been due to expire at the end of the current season in June 2019 but the Lancashire club have picked up an option of an extra year for the Dubliner.

Hendrick joined the Clarets from Derby County ahead of the 2016-17 season, shortly after appearing for Ireland at Euro 2016, and quickly established himself as a key man in the engine room for Sean Dyche’s side.

The former St Kevin’s Boys schoolboy started 29 of Burnley’s 38 league games last season, many in the unfamiliar number ten role, and helped them qualify for Europe with a seventh-place finish.

Hendrick has appeared 13 times for the Clarets in the Premier League this season and Dyche has moved quickly to ensure the midfielder’s future remains at Turf Moor.

"He's done well for us," Dyche told the club’s official website.

"We have asked a lot of him. We have used him in a number of different positions that sometimes aren't natural to him and over time he has delivered good performances for us."

Hendrick’s Ireland and former Kevin’s teammate Robbie Brady picked up a knock in last week’s 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur but Dyche is ‘hopeful’ he’ll return to face Arsenal on Saturday.
