Longford Town announce Steacy and Breslin arrival

First Division promotion hopefuls Longford Town have announced the double signing of former Shelbourne ‘keeper Lee Steacy and defender Anto Breslin, previously of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Steacy, 25, joins Neale Fenn’s charges having enjoyed spells with Shamrock Rovers, Bohemians and Bray Wanderers prior to his most recent stint at Tolka Park with Shelbourne.

The Irish Colleges and Universities international comes in as a direct replacement for former Town shot-stopper Michael Kelly, who is believed to be on the verge of signing for League One side Colchester United in England.

While at Shels, the Dubliner struggled to get any real game time as of such despite his apparent quality, with Dean Delany rubber stamping his claim as No. 1 at the Drumcondra based outfit.

However, the 25-year-old will be buoyed from his 2018 campaign with the Reds after his penalty shootout heroics in the Leinster Senior Cup final against St Patricks Athletic after a pulsating contest at Tolka Park.

Also joining De Town is defender Anto Breslin from Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Breslin, once of famed St Kevin’s Boys schoolboy club on Dublin’s Northside, pledges his allegiance towards the Midlander’s after a spell at Molineux which began in 2015.

During his time at Wolves, the now 21-year-old made three competitive appearances for the Republic of Ireland’s Under-19 Squad.

Utilised primarily as a left-back during his time with the Wolves Under-23’s, Breslin will be a welcome addition to the City Calling Stadium outfit who struggled at times in the full-back positions towards the tail-end of last season’s Playoff push.
