St Patrick's Athletic sign midfielder Cian Coleman from Limerick

Cian Coleman is looking forward to taking the road less travelled and signing with a ‘massive club’ in St Patrick’s Athletic.

The 21-year-old is a rare example of a Corkman taking the chance to sign with a Dublin club, but he’s looking forward to the challenge of a new city.

Coleman is no stranger to leaving his comfort zone, having spent the past season with Limerick after leaving Cork City, with whom he came through the youth ranks.

He was part of the Cork City under-19 side that narrowly lost to Roma in the UEFA Youth League two years ago, and also had a successful spell on loan with Cobh Ramblers in 2017.

“I spoke to [the club] a week or two ago so I’m delighted to get the business done. It was a no-brainer,” Coleman told the club’s media team.

“A Cork fella in Dublin, not many people do it, but I’m just looking forward to it. It’s a massive city so I can’t wait to get going, and a massive club as well.”

“Looking around the ground, it’s probably my favourite ground in the league. We lost the last time I was here with Limerick, but I like the tight ground. The crowd are always on your back but they’re passionate.

“I spoke to Harry [Kenny] and was delighted with what he said. He seems very passionate about improving players, improving me, because I’m young as well.

“He said no one’s just going to get their place. You have to work hard for your place but if I’m ready to knuckle down and do well, I’ll play.”

Coleman’s is the thirdnew face brought in the door at Richmond Park by new manager Harry Kenny, with striker Gary Shaw having also signed from Shamrock Rovers and Dave Webster from Waterford.
