Matt Doherty wins PFA Player of the Month Award

Former Bohemians defender Matt Doherty has won the PFA Player of the Month Award for September after his superb run of form for Premier League new boys Wolverhampton Wanderers. 

Doherty scored his first ever Premier League goal last weekend in Wolves’ 1-0 win away to Crystal Palace as Nuno Espirito Santo’s side climbed up to seventh place in the Premier League. 

In the aftermath of his winner for the Black Country side, the Irish full-back won a vote for the prestigious honour after he saw off Chelsea’s Eden Hazard by 13 percent as Sergio Aguero, James Maddison and Alexandre Lacazette were left in the Irishman’s wake. 

In a supremely positive month for Wolves, the Molineux outfit only conceded one goal as they went onto pick up eight points from a possible 12. 

In addition to this, Doherty picked up two assists in the wins over Burnley and Southampton which saw the 26-year-old Dubliner claim the spoils. 

Doherty has also made the Republic of Ireland’s squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League games against Denmark and Wales at the Aviva Stadium as the Boys in Green look to avenge their recent defeats against their upcoming international opponents (see full squad here).
