Watch: Goalkeeper Brendan Clarke scores a penalty as St Patrick's Athletic see off Sligo Rovers

Goalkeeper Brendan Clarke scored a second-half penalty to help St Patrick's Athletic to a 2-1 victory over Sligo Rovers at the Showgrounds on Friday night.

Clarke stepped up to the plate in the absence of regular penalty-takers Conan Byrne and Ian Turner after Simon Madden had been fouled at the box.

The teams went into the break on level terms after Mikey Drennan cancelled out Jake Keegan's opener for the Saints.

A strong run and cross from Lee Desmond set up American striker Keegan to volley home and put the Athletic in front on the half-hour.

Drennan restored parity five minutes before the break as he scrambled home the loose ball after Patrick McClean had headed Regan Donelon's corner off the bar.

It was left to Clarke to steal the show just before the hour however, as he sent his opposite number Mitchell Beeney the wrong way from 12 yards.
