League Preview: Galway United -v- Wexford

GALWAY UNITED

Galway United welcome managerless Wexford to Eamonn Deacy Park this evening for their final home game of the 2018 season (kick-off 7.45pm).

Although promotion to the top flight is now out of the picture for this season for Galway, manager Alan Murphy is determined to finish the season on a high in their final two games of the season.

Tonight they welcome ninth placed side Wexford FC to the west and next week travel to face promotion chasing Shelbourne in their final game of the 2018 season.

Galway are assured a sixth placed finish to the season regardless of how results go over the next week with Drogheda United seven points clear above them in fifth and Cabinteely seven points below them in seventh.

Murphy spoke to the club website ahead of the fixture and said: “We’re looking to finish the season on a positive. That means we have to give a big performance.

“I’ve been harping on about it all week. We will introduce some new faces, we will try some different things tactically and some of our younger players will be involved.

“It will be a good opportunity to blood them and give them a proper taste of what lies ahead for them.”

On the injury front Conor Layng remains side lined with a long term injury as well as Marc Ludden and the clubs top scorer for the season Eoin McCormack.

WEXFORD

Wexford head west to Galway without a manager and with six defeats in their last six but will take confidence from the fact that they held Galway to a 0-0 draw the last time the two sides met.

Wexford can still equal last season’s total points tally of 19 points if they can take maximum points from their two remaining games against Galway this evening and next week at home to bottom side Athlone.

They go into tonight’s game with a full squad to choose from but striker Aaron Dobbs and Ryan Nolan will face late fitness tests prior to the game.
