Ireland captain Seamus Coleman the latest to be ruled out of Poland game with injury

Republic of Ireland captain Seamus Coleman has become the latest to be ruled out of Tuesday's friendly international with Poland in Wroclaw with injury.

The Everton right-back will play no part in the match after sustaining a foot injury in training ahead of the tie.

The 31-year-old joins Stephen Ward and Jonathan Walters in pulling out of a squad also shorn of Shane Long, Robbie Brady, James McCarthy and James McClean among others.

Declan Rice declined a call-up to the squad in order to assess his options over his international future, while Harry Arter also turned down a call-up.

Coleman played all 90 minutes of Thursday's UEFA Nations League defeat to Wales, his first competitive game for his country since breaking his leg against the same opposition in March 2017.

He is likely to be replaced in the starting 11 by either by Cyrus Christie – who deputised for him during the World Cup qualifying campaign – or Matt Doherty.

The Poles kicked off their UEFA Nations League A Group 3 campaign with a 1-1 draw against Italy in Bologna, a group that also contains Portugal.
