Sligo Rovers the major casualties on the second day of FAI Cup action

Sligo Rovers became the latest Premier Division casualties in the FAI Cup first round as they were defeated 1-0 at home by Longford Town on Saturday.

The Bit o' Red join Shamrock Rovers and Bray Wanderers in falling victim to First Division opposition at the first hurdle.

Jamie Hollywood scored midway through the second half as the midland side knocked Sligo out of the competition for the second season in succession.

Former Ireland international Noel Hunt bagged a hat-trick for Waterford as they navigated a tricky tie by the coast with Skerries Town.

Gavan Holohan also scored for the Blues as they led 2-0 at the break. Brian Snowe pulled one back for Skerries to set up a tense finish, but Hunt scored twice in the last five minutes to seal the win.

Ally Roy continued his sparkling start to live as a Candystripe, scoring four as Derry City put up a record 12-2 scoreline against Blarney United in Cork.

Ronan Hale, Aaron McEneff and Shane McNamee netted doubles, while Cathal Farren and Kevin McHattie were also on target as the Derrymen ran riot at O'Shea Park.

Gary Daly and Cillian Duffy scored as Maynooth University Town edged out Cork's Leeds, while Cabinteely eked out a 2-1 win away to Newmarket Celtic.

An Eoin McCormack hat-trick and a fourth from Conor Barry saw Galway United through with a 4-0 win over North End United in New Ross.

And a dramatic injury-time goal from Dean O'Brien saw CIE Ranch past Dublin Bus in a game fans dubbed 'El Traffico.'
