Northern Irish clubs discover Europa League fate

Northern Irish sides Glenavon, Cliftonville and Coleraine will have their work cut out after receiving tough draws in the first qualifying round of the Europa League.

First out of the pot were Coleraine, who qualified for the Europa League by virtue of their second-place league position. The Bannsiders were drawn against Serbian side FK Spartak Subotica.

Coleraine will be away for their first leg on the week of the 12^th of July before they welcome Spartak to the Showgrounds just a week later during the week of July 19^th.

Should the Danske Bank Premiership runners up win that tie, they will face Sparta Prague in he second qualifying round.

Next out of the hat were Glenavon who received a tricky draw against Norwegian side FK Molde.

If the Mourneview Park outfit are to cause an unlikely shock here against their more illustrious Scandinavian counterparts, they will face the winners of the Famagusta FC and KF Laci tie in the second round.

Cliftonville were the final Danske Bank Premiership side to be pulled out of the hat, and the Reds must look forward to a daunting clash against Danish side FC Nordsjælland.

Nordsjælland, are no strangers to European competition and they have competed in the Champions league Group Stage just six years ago when they finished bottom of the pile in a group that contained Chelsea, Juventus and Shakhtar Donetsk in 2012.

Should Cliftonville pull off the most unlikely of shocks here, they could face Shamrock Rovers in the next round of the competition.

That scenario will only occur if the Hoops can cause a shock of their own against AIK from Sweden in the First Qualifying Round of the Europa League.
