Belgium manager Roberto Martinez signs two-year contract extension

Belgium manager Roberto Martinez has signed a new two-year contract extension that will take him beyond this summer's World Cup and through to Euro 2020.

The Red Devils had an extremely impressive qualifying campaign for the World Cup in Russia, winning all but one of their group games where they were held to a draw against Greece.

This form, under the experience and watchful eye of Martinez, gave the Royal Belgian Football Association enough confidence to award the 44-year-old a two-year extension.

The contract has been, according to the RBFA, extended according to the same conditions as in 2016 when the original contract was signed.

A statement on the association's website read: “ The KBVB appreciates in this sense the passionate motivation of Roberto Martinez to make the Red Devils even stronger in the future.

“The fact that he has been very passionate since his appointment by visiting various clubs and youth academies and seeing numerous players at work during official competitions contributes to this.

“[Martinez] professionally strengthens Belgian football in a professional manner and propagates the image of our football at national and international level.”

Graeme Jones and Richard Evans will continue for a further two years alongside Martinez as first and second assistant respectively.
