Watch: Waterford's Gavan Holohan channels Roberto Carlos with mesmerising swerving goal against Shamrock Rovers

Waterford midfielder Gavan Holohan has been at the heart of the Blues' outstanding start to life in the Premier Division as the most advanced in a hard-working midfield diamond.

The Kilkenny man hasn't had quite as many opportunities to get on the scoresheet as he might have last year with Galway United with extra defensive responsibilities in a midfield four.

But the 26-year-old gave a timely reminder of just how devastating he can be when allowed time to strike the ball with an outstanding swerving opener against Shamrock Rovers on Friday night.

The swerve on the ball caught Rovers goalkeeper Tomer Chencinski completely flat-footed, and on first viewing it looks like the goalkeeper got it badly wrong.

It's the behind-the-goal view that reveals the vicious, Roberto Carlos in Le Tournoi-like swerve Holohan actually got on the shot, which leaves the Canadian stopper with absolutely no chance.

Holohan said: "It just swerved at the last minute and the keeper kind of over-gambled. Luckily for me, it went in. I'll take that all day long.

“I've just tried to hit across the ball and, the way these balls are now, if you get that kind of swazz on it, it can move in all sorts of directions.”

New Ireland call-up Graham Burke levelled for Rovers in the second half, nodding home his tenth of the season following a fantastic run and cross from substitute Dan Carr (read Sam McKeever's match report here).

It's all about that 'swazz' though.
