Leinster Senior Cup Preview: Athlone Town -v- Shelbourne

Athlone Town kick off their Leinster Senior Cup campaign with the visit of holder Shelbourne on Monday night (kick-off 7.45pm).

Athlone avoided defeat for the second time this season on Saturday night as their First Division game away to Cabinteely was abandoned deep into the second half.

Aaron Callaghan's side trailed to Marty Waters' first-half goal and appeared to be headed for a ninth league defeat when the floodlights failed, prompting the match to be called off.

Shelbourne kick off the defence of their Leinster Senior Cup crown with a visit to the League's basement club.

Owen Heary's side underlined their title credentials with a strong 1-1 draw away to Drogheda United on Friday night.

James English equalised for the Reds six minutes from time after Sean Brennan had puts Drogs in front from the spot.
