Shane Duffy and Harriet Scott claim top honours at the FAI International Awards

Brighton and Hove Albion centre-back Shane Duffy claimed the men’s senior international player of the year and Harriet Scott the women's gong at last night’s Three FAI International Awards.

After a breakthrough year for the Duffy during the 2018 World Cup Qualifying campaign, which ended in heartbreaking fashion against Denmark, the Derry man took the spoils after some courageous displays in the for Martin O’Neill’s men.

Also claiming top honours was women’s international star Harriet Scott, who played a pivotal role for the Girls in Green in 2017.

Reading defender Scott only made her international debut in March of last year but has clearly impressed in her brief time in green as she claimed the award ahead of Megan Campbell and Denise O’Sullivan.

James McClean grabbed the honour of the International Goal of the Year with his sumptuous winning strike against Wales in the last game of the Boys in Green's group campaign, while 25-year-old Fulham right-back Cyrus was declared the Young International of the Year.

Former Chelsea winger and current Shamrock Rovers under-15 Head Coach Damien Duff was honoured by the FAI at the lavish awards ceremony which saw the Ballyboden native presented with a place in the FAI’s Hall of Fame.

Preston North End striker Sean Maguire was presented with the SSE Airtricity League player of the Year Award after his stunning performances for Cork City at Turner’s Cross in the first half of last season.

West Ham United pair Josh Cullen and Declan Rice saw themselves named under-19 and under-21 Players of the Year respectively, while Lucy McCartan was named women’s under-19 Player of the Year.

Former Ireland assistant managerand former Italian World Cup winner Marco Tardelli was named International Personality of the Year, while the Special Merit Award went to the late Jimmy Magee.
