Watch: Former Dundalk defender books Scottish Cup semi-final berth with spectacular volley

Donegal's Carl McHugh had a day to remember as his spectacular long-range volley booked Motherwell a spot in the Scottish Cup semi-final at the expense of Hearts.

The former Dundalk defender – who plays in a more advanced role for the Premiership club – showed supreme control and technique to chest the ball down before firing past Jon McLaughlin.

The game was poised at 1-1 after Northern Ireland international Kyle Lafferty had cancelled out Curtis Main's opener as the clock ticket towards a drawn conclusion and a replay on the cards.

However the former Bradford City man settled the tie with just four minutes remaining, the captain slamming an unstoppable shot past McLaughlin to line up a semi-final date with Aberdeen.
