UCD win their 7th CUFL Premier Division title

UCD have capped off a very successful season by beating UCC 1-0 at Home Farm to secure the Colleges and Universities Premier Division title.

The Dublin college side have already won the Collingwood Cup this season and it is the third time they have managed the league and cup double having repeated their achievements from 2007 and 2010.

It was a quiet enough opening to the game with the best chances of the first half falling to Timmy Molloy and goalscorer Jason McClelland but the deadlock could not be broken before half time.

The game really opened up in the second half with UCC midfielder David Dalton coming closest for the Cork side, firstly with a goal ruled out for offside and was then denied by the crossbar.

UCD then had some glorious opportunities of their own with Yousef Mahdy combining nicely with Georgie Kelly but last year’s top scorer in the Airtricty League First Division could not capitalize and the game remained scoreless entering the closing stages.

The pressure by UCD all became too much for the Cork side and the only goal of the game came soon after courtesy of a Jason McClelland strike with a low shot just past the reach of UCC goalie Cathal O’Hanlon and into the bottom corner to seal the title for UCD.
