Former Ireland striker Kevin Doyle takes up role with Wexford GAA

Former Republic of Ireland international Kevin Doyle has linked up with the Wexford under-20s GAA teamin an advisory role following his retirement from football.

The 34-year-old hung up his boots late last year on medical advice after experiencing severe and persistent concussion symptoms and returned to live in his native Wexford.

Doyle hasn't rested on his laurels since making the move back, however, and Wexford selector PJ Banville revealed he's offered his assistance to the county Gaelic football team.

Former Cork City and St Patrick's Athletic striker Doyle enjoyed a prolific 20-year career in the game that saw him line out 63 times for his country, scoring 14 times.

He spent a decade playing at the top level in England with Reading, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Queens Park Rangers and Crystal Palace before moving the US to join Colorado Rapids in 2015.

Having won the Premier Division title with Cork in 2005, Doyle went on win a Championship medal and score 19 goals as Reading were promoted to the Premier League for the first time in their history in 2016.

Doyle signed on for a three-year stint with the Rapids in Major League Soccer but announced his retirement in September of last year as a result of ongoing head trauma.
