Drogheda complete signing of Kealan Dillon and Victor Ekanem

Drogheda United have completed the signings of midfielder Kealan Dillon from Longford Town and defender Victor Ekanem from Cabinteely.

The pair have been on trial with Drogheda throughout pre-season, with Dillon playing in all four of the Boynesiders’ games so far while Ekanem has played in three.

Dillon's League of Ireland career began in 2014 when he signed for Mick Cooke at Athlone Town, after returning to Ireland from the UK where he had spells with both Hull City and St Mirren.

He made 32 league appearances for Athlone in 2014, scoring four goals as Athlone were relegated to the First Division.

Dillon then followed Keith Long, who had taken over from Mick Cooke as Athlone manager midway through the 2014 season, in moving to Bohemians for the 2015 season.

After spending a season at Bohemians, who finished fifth in the 2015 Premier Division, Dillon made the move to Longford Town.

Now, after spending two season with the Midlands club, one in the Premier Division and one in the First Division, he has signed for Drogheda United.

Dillon has found the net once in pre-season, as his long range effort after just four minutes against Derry nestled in the top corner of Eric Grimes goal.

Tim Clancy has also signed defender Victor Ekanem, who returns to United Park for a second spell with Drogheda.

Ekanem first played with Drogheda during the 2011 season, having previously played for the Shamrock Rovers side that won the 2009 A Championship and then Longford Town, where he scored three goals in 22 league appearances.

Ekanem made 16 league appearances for Drogheda in 2011 under manager Mick Cooke before moving to Leinster Senior League side Phoenix FC.

It would be 2015 when Ekanem's name would again be seen in the League of Ireland as he joined Cabinteely, who had just joined the league.

Ekanem made 25 league appearances in 2015, scoring once but an injury hit last two seasons saw his playing time for Cabinteely limited.
