Ireland under-21 winger Harry Charsley joins Bolton Wanderers on loan from Everton

Republic of Ireland under-21 international Harry Charsley has signed for English Championship side Bolton Wanderers on loan until the end of the season.

The Everton winger made his bow for the senior team in last month's Europa League win over Apollon Nicosia at Goodison Park and has gone out on loan to gain more first-team experience.

21-year-old Charsley is a native of Birkenhead and has been with the Toffees since the age of nine, but qualifies for Ireland through his grandparents.

He helped Everton to win the under-18 league in 2013/14 and was named the club's under-18 player of the year the following.

Charsley has played in all of Ireland's European Under-21 Championship qualifiers to date, scoring once in the 4-0 win over Israel at Tallaght Stadium in October.

“I'm really proud and really happy to be here and I can't wait to get going,” Charsley told the Bolton Wanderers website.

“I've known about it [the move] for a few weeks and I thought it would get done sooner but I'm just glad it finally happened.

“I've watched a few games, to be fair, and a few of the players so hopefully we can pick up results. I know we're doing really well recently so hopefully we can carry that on.”

Bolton manager Phil Parkinson added: “Harry is a player we have watched a lot and he can play all across the midfield as well as in behind the striker.

“He’s from Everton’s U23 team where a lot of their players have gone out on loan and have done well with the help of David Unsworth and his team.

“They almost play like a league team, so when you get a player from Everton’s youth ranks, you know that they are ready and are hardened to understand the rigours of what it takes to win games of football.

“With that in mind, we are very much looking forward to working with Harry and he is a very good acquisition for us.”
