Ipswich Town sign young striker Aaron Drinan from Waterford

Striker Aaron Drinan has sealed a move to EFL Championship side Ipswich Town from Waterford after his international clearance was finalised.

The 19-year-old has been training with Mick McCarthy’s squad since October and has signed a three-and-a-half year deal.

He could be involved as early as this Saturday when Ipswich take on Sheffield United in the FA Cup third round.

Drinan signed for Waterford back in July and made six appearances on the way to sealing promotion to the Airtricity League Premier Division with the club.

He had previously lined out for Cork City’s under-19 side scoring against HJK Helsinki and As Roma in the UEFA Youth League campaign.

“It’s great and I’m buzzing to get going,” the young striker told the Ipswich Town website.

“Not being able to play was tough but I always knew the transfer would go through so I just kept my head down and worked hard.

“The manager has praised me in training so I hope I can take that out onto the pitch and impress him.”

Manager Mick McCarthy added: “He hasn’t looked out of place in training at all. The only frustrating thing is that he hasn’t been able to play but he’s ready to go now.”
