Drogheda re-sign Mark Doyle and Stephen Meaney

Drogheda United’s squad for 2018 has increased to nine with Mark Doyle and Stephen Meaney signing new deals with the club.

Doyle made his senior debut for Drogheda as a substitute on the opening night of the 2016 First Division season in a 2-1 victory over Waterford United.

He made six league appearances that season and was named in Drogheda’s first team squad for their return to the Premier Division in 2017.

Doyle again played for Drogheda’s U19s in 2017, scoring nine times for the underage side while he made further strides in the Boynesiders first team.

The 19-year-old made 16 appearances for the senior team, scoring twice – in a 4-0 FAI Cup victory over Evergreen and in a 2-1 defeat to Derry City.

Meaney played for both Shelbourne and Bohemians at underage level before making the move to Drogheda ahead of the 2017 season.

His first involvement came as a substitute in a 5-1 pre-season friendly victory over Cabinteely.

Meaney was the standout player from Drogheda’s U19 side, winning the U19 Managers’ Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year awards at the end of the season.

His form for the U19’s, which saw him score 18 times last season, earned him a breakthrough into Pete Mahon’s first team.

After making a number of substitute appearances in the second half of the season, Meaney was handed his first senior start in the second last game of the season, away to Finn Harps and scored Drogheda’s third as they beat Harps 3-2.
