Elworthy and O’Reilly sign for Longford Town

Longford Town have announced that former Drogheda United man Shane Elworthy and previous UCD Under-19 star Andy O’Reilly are to join the club ahead of the 2018 First Division campaign.

With the confirmation from the FAI coming yesterday regarding the new league structure, Neale Fenn has added to his ranks with some more young talent for the 2018 season in waiting.

Continuing the trend of former Drogheda United players swapping United Park for the City Calling Stadium is defender Shane Elworthy. The former Irish underage international, who has had a spell in England before with Fulham, joins up with Jamie Hollywood and Chris Mulhall who have made the switch from the Drogs to De Town.

Elworthy made 19 appearances for Drogheda last season after making the switch from St Patrick’s Athletic, where the Dubliner managed to nail down a place in Pete Mahon’s starting eleven towards the end of what was a bitterly disappointing season for the Boynesiders.

Also making the move to the midlands is Andy O’Reilly from the UCD Under 19’s. Having made his name in the heart of the UCD midfield during their unlucky UEFA Youth League defeat to Molde, O’Reilly joins with Neale Fenn’s charges for the 2018 campaign.

Andy will not be the only O’Reilly in the Longford Town first team next season as he looks set to join up with his cousin Daniel who won the Longford Town Player of the Year Award for 2017.
