Daire Doyle calls time on playing career and signs on as Longford Town assistant manager

Having announced his retirement from football after a 20-year long career which saw the Dubliner represent many a club from Coventry City to Cabinteely, Daire Doyle has announced that he has retired from football to become the new Longford Town assistant manager.

 

In a playing career which saw Doyle play in England for Coventry, Kidderminster Harriers, Nuneaton Borough, Moor Green, Redditch United and Bromsgrove Rovers, he returned to Ireland to play for Bray Wanderers, Drogheda United, Shelbourne and Cabinteely as well as captaining Longford Town during his first stint at the club as a player.

 

Last season, Doyle started to make his transition to a coach under the stewardship of Pat Devlin at Cabinteely but still featured heavily in the starting eleven for Cabo, captaining the side in a record breaking year for his former employers.

 

Doyle joins Longford Town following long-standing club assistant manager Gary Cronin’s departure from the midlands, who’s stint as both player and assistant manager lasted eight seasons at the City Calling Stadium.

 

Doyle has played for Longford Town before which was a two-year stint at the Strokestown Road venue, where the now 37-year-old made 62 appearances for the “Red and Black” whilst scoring two goals in the process.
