Shamrock Rovers announce their first new signings for 2016

Shamrock Rovers have announced that they have signed Dean Clarke and Gary Shaw from both Limerick and Longford Town respectively.

Clarke played 32 times for the Super Blues last season, scoring six times and his new manager Pat Fenlon said he is delighted to have the ex-UCD man on board.

“Dean is the profile of player we are looking for," said Fenlon about the Hoops' first new signings for 2016.

"He is a very quick player and adds pace to the squad. He can play on both sides of the pitch and up top. He also has a real hunger for the game and is keen to progress his career at Shamrock Rovers. Other clubs were interested in Dean, we are delighted to have him with us at Rovers in 2016”.

While this may be Clarke's first time signing for the Hoops, this isn’t Gary Shaws first time with the Tallaght club. Shaw, who also made 32 appearances for his club Longford last season, spent a year and a half at Rovers between the year's of 2008 and 2009.

Fenlon said he looked at him earlier on in the year, but is delighted he has his man for the new campaign to come.

“I am delighted to have Gary at the club. He is a player we looked at earlier in the season so to get him now is very satisfying. He is the profile of player we need to add to the squad.

"He has a great desire to achieve in football, is hungry for success and gives us more options up front”.

Shamrock Rovers were one of the only two clubs not to do a bit of business in this window up until this point; the only club left to sign a new player is Derry City.

Rovers confirmed the re-signing of some their 2015 squad this week including Craig Hyland, David O’Connor, Luke Byrne, Gavin Brennan and the return of Rob Cornwall and Sean Heaney from loan spells. Following a great season with the U19sm Trevor Clarke has been handed a first team contract with the Hoops for 2016.

In addition to the new signings and those re-signed, players in contract for 2016 from last season are Barry Murphy, Simon Madden, David Webster, Gary McCabe, Patrick Cregg, Brandon Miele, Damien Duff, Danny North and Mikey Drennan.
